A wonderful historic city
Providence has a really special feel with its historic buildings and riverside walks. It's a very walkable city, which we loved. The architecture along Benefit Street is just incredible. A great place for a relaxed city break.
Such a creative place
This is such a creative city. You can feel the art school influence everywhere. We saw a WaterFire lighting which was super unique. It's great for just walking and discovering cool little shops and galleries. The whole place is really artistic.
Amazing food!
Providence has an amazing food scene, especially on Federal Hill. The Italian food is top-notch. It was nice to find a city with such great, authentic restaurants packed into one neighborhood. Also had to try the famous coffee milk.
Great college town feel
The energy from the universities is noticeable all over the East Side. It gives the area a youthful, busy feel. Thayer Street was full of students, cool bookshops, and little places to eat. It was a neat part of the city to explore on foot.
Easy to explore on foot
A really manageable city for a short trip. The downtown is compact and you can see a lot in a day. I wandered into The Arcade, which has a lot of history and some neat independent shops. It was a good use of a free afternoon.
Cozy winter trip
We visited during a cold spell, but it was still a great trip. The city is full of cozy spots. The Providence Athenaeum was a perfect place to warm up and soak in some history. It felt like a proper old New England town in the winter.
